Status Report #2: 6th of April, 2025
Mornin' yall, Amalia here!
So, hope everyone's been doing well? All 5 of you who're reading along? 😜
Well, we're doing largely alright. Let me tell ya, starting with our...
Musical endeavors
Well, Mixed Signals released just this friday, and it's been..... eh?
Somewhat underwhelming, to be honest. On Youtube, where we're running a promotion for it, like 99.4% of the views are -just- from said promotion. Without it, we'd have like..... 5 views/listens?
That ain't great. Especially considering that to our mind, Mixed Signals is kind of our best work yet. 😕
That said, at least a solid 11% of listeners stick around until the end of the song. That might not -sound- like a good number, but in our age of ravaged attention spans, that's pretty solid. And important for this song in particular, 'cause it goes through multiple phases.
Actually, tell ya what, why don't -you- give it a listen?
Gotcha. 😉
But yeah, in terms of working on new songs, it's admittedly been a bit of a lame couple of weeks. We got a little caught up on strategizing and doing ad stuff, not to mention having to work overtime at our day-job.
That being said, everything's now mostly cleared up and we're looking to start gaining some real traction on the next number. It's called "Electric Boogaloo", and it's a sort of blues-hop electronica number with heavy Indian influences. So the usual, unusual fare!
Oh, but in the bigger picture, we're looking to slow down our release schedule a bit. Not to like, two songs a year or anything, but we're thinking of doing a release every 1.5-2 months, rather than each month.
Not because we wanna work less on our music, mind you. But actually, with more time per release, we could put more time into our songs, and really get the most out of each one. Not to mention, if we don't release each and every month, then we'll have more resources for promotion when we -do- release.
Though yeah, it'd sure be nice to get to the point where we get at least -some- listeners without ads. Sure, putting yourself out there and getting heard will always involve promotion in one way or another, but y'know, it'd be neat to know that if we upload something, it'll get at least a handful of listeners without us stuffing money into the advert machine. 🤷
Ah well, we'll keep going, because ultimately, it's quite fun.
That's about it from the musical side of things, so let's get onto....
Our personal endeavors
Been an alright couple of weeks for us!
We've been riding our new bike to and from work, at least when the weather allows for it. Thus, we've been losing some weight, too! We've gained a few kilos over the winter, so we can spare 'em.
We also finished reading "Warboss" by Mike Brooks. Dat woz a zoggin' good novel, i tells ya. Very orky. Highly recommended!
We're now reading a classic: Starship Troopers.
See, we never actually saw that famous movie adaptation, but we understand that where to book is more ambiguous about whether the military should be glorified or not, the movie is outright cynical about it. Well, the book's an interesting read so far, and yeah, not overly cynical, but also not exactly showering the military in glory. At least so far. We're about a quarter in.
We'll see how it develops, and then watch the movie afterwards. It's a hobby of ours. 😉
Speaking of things to watch, we.... or well, -I- made a bit of an impulse purchase, just yesterday.
See, we don't have much of a collection in terms of DVD, Blurays or any other physical media, aside from books.
But!
Every now and then, when a show is very special to us, we get it. And not season by season, no. I mean we go all-in, getting full, complete box-sets.
So far, this has happened only 2 times: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (The one with Jeremy Brett) and Agatha Christie's Poirot.
But now, there shall be a new show to join these others on our hallowed shelf of physical media, and it's....
Starsky and Hutch.
Didn't see that one coming, didya?
Funny thing is, the reason we got onto that is because we were playing some Lego City Undercover the other day (yes, really.), and there's 2 reference characters in there called "Studsky and Clutch".
..... which kinda reminded us that while we know the characters, the funky music style and the red Gran Torino.... We'd never actually seen an episode of that show.
So we went and did! And we liked it so much, i ordered a box-set right there and then! (Making sure it includes the English language first. Keep in mind we're in Germany, and while we natively speak German, we tend to prefer English as both a more practical, as well as more expressive language. German's good for technical documentation and bureaucracy, mostly.)
But yeah, that's pretty much all we've gotta say, this time around.
See you next time, and until then, have a good one! 😀
