Status Report #12: 7th of September, 2025
Hiya folks! Amalia here for another Status Report!
So, let's talk about what Michael and i have been up to, starting with our...
Musical stuff!
.... okay, imma be honest, it's been a mixed bag, these couple of weeks.
We did get some work done on our next project during the first week, and had a hilarious recording session doing..... *interesting* vocals, which we shan't spoil for you. 😜
Buuut during this second week, we hit a bit of a slump. Been sleeping a badly, not really feeling much drive to hop into our DAW and get stuff done.
Should resolve itself soon enough. It happens, you know.
In better news, we bought ourselves a fancy new pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X headphones for the Studio! Because we've been using AKG K-701's for most of our stuff, and while those are good, they're kinda specialized and lack in the bass department, which often meant that when we got to the mastering stage and tried listening to our new music on a variety of speakers, we usually ended up realizing some significant issues with the mix that needed fixing before release.
Basically, with the K-701's, we needed to make everything sound super-tinny, so that it'd be decently balanced on most other devices.
Being open-backed headphones, they were also unfit for recording, because the sound from the headphones would bleed through the microphone. But i mean, that's fair, they're not designed as recording headphones, obviously. We always used a different pair for that.
Still, the DT 770 Pro X's should be much nicer in both regards. Closed-back, so they can be used for recording, very comfy (just like the AKG's), and good, detailed sound in both higher and lower frequencies.
Quite like 'em, so far. But yeah, that's pretty much it for our musical endeavors, this week.
So, let's move on to....
Life stuff!
More activity's been happening in that field, this past week!
For one, Michael's been writing up a new post about a childhood game of his that we recently finished. This one's quite a doozy, but i won't be spoiling what it is for ya. 😉
In other gaming news, we've now moved on to 2 more games that are on our to-do list.
One of them is Avorion, which is a cool space game, a bit like the X-franchise or Elite Dangerous. But with the twist that ships are block-based, so you can design your own.
Cool little game, and we decided to finally stick with it for the long haul and finish it. Or, since it's fairly open and sandbox-y, get to a point where we *consider* the game finished, at least. Maybe reach the center of the galaxy or such. We'll see.
Also, we've been thinking about Battletech (The Mechwarrior Scifi-universe) for a bit. See, Mechwarrior 5 is on our to-do list, and we've got a couple of BT novels, so we figured that maybe after finishing our current book (40k Eisenhorn - The Magos), we might get into that.
But then, in the middle of us reading our Eisenhorn book, Piranha games just comes along and goes "Yo dude, check out this Clan Invasion expansion we just released for MW5!".
So we did our best to resist our nerd-brain and hold off until we finished our book. Except we failed pretty hard and bought the expansion a couple of days after release.
So now we're doing a new Mechwarrior 5 playthrough. Starting with the main campaign, because we'd never finished it. And of course, now with the knowledge that there'll be Clan mechs further down the line. Soon, we shall relive those glory days of MW4, stomping around in our Dire Wolf. Yeees.
In other news, we've been racking our brain (just the one!😜) to figure out how to improve our daily routines, get rid of distractions, really get our stuff together and get more out of our time. Like, getting up to more music production sessions as well as some good ol' practice, but also some more time for fitness and the like.
And we found a nice group of apps called StayFree. They allow you to block apps and websites based on things like time schedules, daily usage limits and such.
This isn't an ad, don't worry. I'm just saying that we've been having a rather positive time with this stuff. In this world of distractions, it's supremely useful to just straight-up stop yourself from being suckered into wasting hours, numbing your mind with useless stuff.
Also, earlier today, we sorted out a bit of a concept to incentivize ourselves to make a habit of some good daily routines. So as you can tell, we're in a bit of a self-improvement phase.
Well, it should do us some good. But yeah, imma call it here for this week's report.
See you for our next post, and until then, have a good one! 🙂
